Battery Storage Installation Process
Here at Green Flare, we design and install bespoke battery storage systems that do more than just store excess solar power; they optimise how and when you use electricity. Whether you’re looking to increase your self-sufficiency, reduce reliance on the grid or take advantage of off-peak tariffs, our expert team will guide you through every stage of the process.
We tailor each installation to suit your property, your energy habits and your wider renewable setup – ensuring your system delivers maximum value from day one.

1. Site Survey and Energy Assessment
Every installation begins with a comprehensive site survey. Our team will review your existing or proposed solar PV system, assess inverter locations and evaluate the property’s electrical infrastructure to ensure compatibility.
We’ll also take time to understand your energy usage patterns, taking into account when and where electricity is used most in your home or business. This includes looking at high-demand areas such as electric vehicle charging points, heat pumps or other energy-intensive appliances.
This initial assessment forms the foundation for a truly tailored system – one that’s designed not just to fit your home, but to work in harmony with how you live or operate your business.

2. System Design and Sizing
Once we understand your energy usage and infrastructure, we’ll design a battery storage system that aligns with your specific goals – whether that’s maximising solar self-consumption, reducing reliance on the grid, or taking advantage of off-peak electricity rates.
For some customers, the priority is to store surplus solar energy during the day for use in the evening. For others, it’s about load shifting – charging the battery during cheaper off-peak periods and using that stored energy when grid prices are highest.
We carefully size your system to ensure it matches your generation potential and consumption patterns. This avoids under- or over-specification and ensures long-term performance, flexibility and value.
As always, we’ll talk you through the design in detail, answer any questions, and adjust the specification as needed before moving forward.
3. Permissions and Scheduling
Once the system design has been agreed, we take care of all necessary notifications and permissions – including submitting a DNO (Distribution Network Operator) notification to ensure your new battery system complies with UK grid regulations.
This is a key step for any grid-connected battery installation, and our team handles it entirely on your behalf – no forms, no waiting around.
When everything is in place, we’ll arrange your installation at a time that suits your schedule. Whether the battery is being installed as part of a wider renewable project or as a standalone upgrade, we aim to ensure minimal disruption to your home or business.
Most installations are completed in just two to five working days, depending on the system size and site complexity. Throughout, our focus is on efficiency, safety, and clear communication.

4. Installation and Testing
Your battery storage system will be installed by our own team of fully qualified, in-house engineers – no subcontractors, and no shortcuts. We take care of every detail, from discreet cable routing to integrating controls and ensuring the system works in harmony with your existing solar array or electrical setup.
We’re committed to delivering not just technical excellence, but also a clean and respectful installation. Our team works carefully to minimise disruption, keep the workspace tidy, and respect your home or business throughout.
Once the physical installation is complete, we’ll fill, test, and verify the system – checking that everything is sealed, connected, and ready to go. This testing phase is critical to ensure your battery operates safely, efficiently, and exactly as intended before we move to final commissioning.

4. Installation and Testing
With installation complete, our engineers will fully commission and configure your battery storage system – testing performance, fine-tuning settings, and ensuring everything is working exactly as designed.
We’ll then guide you through your new system, showing you how to operate it confidently and make the most of its features. This includes understanding off-peak charging, how internal battery heaters work in colder conditions, and the different operating modes available to suit your usage patterns.
You’ll also receive a handover pack with all essential documentation, including:
-
Your DNO notification confirmation
-
User manuals
-
Warranty information
At Green Flare, we believe in empowering our customers – not just installing systems, but ensuring you understand and benefit from every aspect of the technology.
